This installment of the long-running "Jaka's Story" arc arrives with one of the most quietly striking covers of 1990 — a richly rendered close-up of a weathered wooden door and its heavy iron lockset, painted with remarkable texture by Dave Sim and Gerhard. The image says everything without showing anything: a closed door, scratched and worn, its keyhole waiting — an atmosphere of anticipation and threshold that feels entirely fitting for "The Poet 12." It's a testament to how far Aardvark-Vanaheim's flagship series had pushed the boundaries of what an indie comic cover could be.
