Captain Marvel #21
This August 1970 issue puts Captain Marvel squarely in the path of an enraged Hulk, and the cover by Gil Kane and Dan Adkins captures the collision with real urgency — Mar-Vell, in his striking red-and-blue uniform, fires energy blasts at close range while the Hulk looms massive and snarling in the foreground. A crowd of student protesters carrying anti-war signs stands just behind the action, making it clear exactly what's at stake as Mar-Vell warns the Hulk to back off or face him first. With Roy Thomas scripting and the story titled "Here Comes the Hulk!", this is a wonderfully charged hero-vs-hero showdown rooted in one of 1970's most resonant settings — the college campus.
