Captain Marvel #22
From September 1972, this issue of Marvel's Captain Marvel announces its stakes right on the cover: "He's Back — The Hero Who Wouldn't Die!" A massive, golden-fisted figure identified as Megaton the Atomic Assassin dominates the foreground, his fist blazing with energy as he clashes with a dark-costumed figure amid a crowd of terrified bystanders, while a smaller inset shows Captain Marvel himself in his red-and-gold uniform poised for action. Gil Kane and Frank Giacoia deliver a cover that crackles with kinetic energy, and with Gerry Conway scripting and Wayne Boring on interior art, "To Live Again!" promises a story every bit as charged as the confrontation teased here.
