In the main story, Candy's father is elected president of the Hartwick Men's Club and must now dress formally as the president's daughter, but Candy accidentally orders a live skunk instead of a skunk jacket and attempts to send it as a consolation prize to her rival Cornelia. When her father discovers the mix-up and learns the expensive skunk jacket will cost him $125, chaos ensues as Candy tries to manage the situation. The story also includes a subplot where Candy helps her friend Ted win a boat race by assisting with repairs and offering racing tips, while her friend Dawson attempts to use an excuse about the ice to spend time with Candy.
