Cable #4 (May 2024) serves as the finale of the fifth volume of Cable's solo series and the capstone of a four-issue miniseries that functioned as one of Marvel's official tie-ins to the 'Fall of the House of X' publishing event — the grand conclusion to the five-year Krakoan Age of the X-Men. Its greatest significance is the reunion of writer Fabian Nicieza with the character he did more than anyone else to define: Nicieza had shaped Cable across X-Force, the original solo series, and Cable & Deadpool throughout the 1990s and 2000s, making his return a genuine creative homecoming rather than a marketing stunt. The issue resolves the Neocracy threat by bringing both the older Nathan Summers and his time-displaced younger self — Kid Cable — to a head against villain Henri Parvenu, whose self-destruction as the 'Luminant' closes out an original storyline entirely of Nicieza's own invention, seating it within Krakoa's final chapter without simply rehashing past glories. As the concluding chapter, it also delivers the full reveal of the supporting character Kioni as Courier (Jacqueline Gavin), tying back into decades-old Cable continuity that Nicieza himself had helped establish.

History

The series was announced at New York Comic Con in October 2023 as a four-issue limited miniseries, with issue #1 on sale January 17, 2024, and issue #4 arriving May 1, 2024. Marvel positioned it explicitly as a tie-in to the dual interconnected event miniseries Fall of the House of X and Rise of the Powers of X, the twin pillars of the Krakoa era's conclusion. Pencilling duties were shared across the run by Scot Eaton and Lan Medina, with inking by Cam Smith and José Marzan Jr. and coloring by Javier Tartaglia throughout; Whilce Portacio — himself a foundational figure in Cable's visual history — provided covers for all four issues. The entire four-issue run was subsequently collected in the trade paperback Cable: United We Fall, released August 21, 2024.

The issue resolves the miniseries' central threat: Henri Parvenu, founder of Parvenu Industries and architect of the Neocracy (a forced evolutionary assimilation scheme), transforms himself into an energy being called the Luminant and ultimately dissipates — destroyed by his own obsessive pursuit of forced human evolution.
Both iterations of Cable appear as featured characters: the adult Nathan Summers (Earth-616) and the time-displaced younger Nate Summers; their dynamic — including Kid Cable's apparent betrayal-as-stratagem, shooting his older self to maintain cover with Parvenu — is the emotional spine of the finale.
The issue reveals the true identity of Kioni, a trusted subordinate of Parvenu, as Courier (Jacqueline Gavin), a shapeshifting mutant character with deep roots in Nicieza's earlier Cable continuity.
Irene Merryweather, a longtime supporting character in Cable's mythology, returns in this series after her last appearance in The Despicable Deadpool.
Covers for all four issues were provided by Whilce Portacio, a defining visual artist for the X-Men franchise, with coloring by Alex Sinclair; a Juann Cabal variant cover also exists for issue #4.
