Spinning out of The Goon, Eric Powell's Buzzard reaches its middle chapter with a cover that pulls no punches — the gaunt, white-haired Buzzard looms large in his black hat and cloak, pistol in one hand and bloodied saber in the other, laying into a mob of snarling, orange-eyed undead creatures beneath a skeletal treeline. Powell's linework crackles with grim energy, balancing grotesque horror with the dark wit that makes this Goon-universe corner feel wholly its own. The issue also features a Billy the Kid's Old Timey Oddities backup story, making this 2010 Dark Horse package a satisfying double dose of Powell's distinctive frontier-supernatural style.
