Marvel's forgotten frontier gets a powerful revival in this 2000 miniseries opener subtitled "The Last Ride of the Western Heroes." Leonardo Manco's painted cover assembles a striking gallery of gun-toting figures — a brooding gunslinger dominating the foreground with a heavy revolver, flanked by a masked outlaw, a fringed Native American warrior, a long-haired frontiersman, and several other weathered faces emerging from a backdrop of fire and a blood-red moon, with a lone silhouetted rider on horseback looming above them all. Writer John Ostrander and artist Manco clearly set a gritty, elegiac tone from the first page, promising a Western saga that takes its legends seriously.
