“In the Dread of Night”

The armored Black Knight looms in the foreground, Ebony Blade drawn and ready, while a massive skull-faced specter dominates the background and a black horse rears at his side — a striking cover composition by penciler Rich Buckler and inker Tony DeZuniga that sets a genuinely eerie medieval tone. The bold "In the Dread of Knight!" tagline promises dark adventure, and the guest-star banner confirms Captain Britain is along for the ride. Roy Thomas and Dann Thomas bring their knack for sword-and-sorcery storytelling to this 1990 Marvel miniseries, with interior art from Tony DeZuniga adding further atmosphere to the mix.

The Black Knight, still possessed by the spirit of Sir Percy, and Victoria ask for Captain Britain's assistance in finding the elusive castle of Morgan LeFey. As they near their goal on the Irish coast, the Black Knight takes off his helmet and is once again restored to the mind of Dane Whitman. In the service of Morgan and Mordred, the Dreadknight attacks just as Dane begins to succumb to the curse of his Ebony Blade and turn to iron. Reluctantly, he puts his helmet back on and allows Sir Percy to take over his body. Our heroes quickly rout Dreadknight and continue their quest to stop LeFey.
