Batman: White Knight #4

The fourth chapter of this eight-part series presents a striking tension right on the cover: a bloodied, looming Batman dominates the upper half, his expression somewhere between fury and desperation, while below him Gotham's streets are filled with a cheering crowd rallying around a massive "Napier — Councilor" campaign billboard. Sean Murphy's art (with Matt Hollingsworth's atmospheric coloring bathing everything in smoldering crimson) captures the series' central conflict beautifully — the Dark Knight's raw, wounded presence set against the polished political rise of Jack Napier. At the series' midpoint, the cover alone suggests a Gotham where the balance of power is shifting in ways Batman may not be able to punch his way through.
