The penultimate half of Sean Murphy and Matt Hollingsworth's acclaimed eight-part series is captured beautifully here: a white-haired woman in a rose-emblazoned jacket dominates the foreground, her expression cool and knowing, while Batman swoops through Gotham's darkened skyline behind her — the Bat-Signal glowing in the distance. Below them, a crowd of protesters marches through the city streets, with a suited man and a blonde woman walking at the front, signs raised, suggesting a Gotham on the edge of something significant. Murphy's sharp linework and Hollingsworth's moody, muted palette give the whole image a noir tension that makes this mid-series chapter feel like a genuine turning point.
