Batman: The Return of Bruce Wayne #2
Part two of Grant Morrison's six-part epic drops Bruce Wayne into what looks like colonial-era America, where Andy Kubert's cover depicts him striding forward in a wide-brimmed hat and bat-winged cloak, fists clenched against a backdrop of roaring flames, a burning settlement, and snarling demonic figures looming out of the fire. The burnt-orange inferno and monstrous faces surrounding him give the image a genuinely unsettling, hellish weight that makes this corner of history feel dangerous in a way only the Dark Knight could navigate. With Grant Morrison writing and Frazer Irving handling interior art, this 2010 series continues to be one of DC's most ambitious Batman stories of its era.
