The retro pulp-magazine aesthetic of Francesco Francavilla's cover for Avengers Arena #16 is an immediate showstopper — a determined young woman in a spacesuit and jet pack levels a pistol at the viewer beneath the bold headline "I Was a Teenage Astrogirl," while the tagline "Lust! Blood! Jet Packs!" sells the whole glorious absurdity. It's a clever visual detour for a series set in a deadly teen battle-royale, wrapping the tension of "Boss Level Part 3 of 5" in the trappings of a 1950s sci-fi B-movie poster. Dennis Hopeless scripts with Karl Moline on interior art, making this 2013 Marvel issue a genuinely fun chapter to have on your shelf.
