“Gifted Part Two”

John Cassaday's cover for "Gifted Part Two" is a quietly unnerving composition: a white-haired woman looms behind a dark-clad figure whose eyes she covers with glowing, red-tinged hands. The cool blue palette and the tension between the two figures give the image an air of control and concealed power that pulls you straight in. Joss Whedon and Cassaday were clearly building something deliberate with this series, and issue #2 makes that case with confident, unsettling style.
