“Ground Game”

In "Ground Game," Little Archie steps in to help Chick Cooper with his paper route when Chick comes down with a cold. With Dilton’s experimental paper-throwing machine in tow, Little Archie enlists Spotty to pull it—only for the dog to bolt when he spots Yakaboo, Mrs. Skratchlow’s notorious cat. Written and drawn by Bob Bolling, with colors by Barry Grossman and letters by Bill Yoshida, this lighthearted adventure captures the chaos of a misfired delivery system and the unlikely heroism of a kid and his dog. The cover by Stan Goldberg and Bob Smith perfectly captures the scene’s playful energy.

Little Archie is helping out Chick Cooper on his paper route. When Chick is sick and Little Archie has to handle the route himself, he and Dilton decide to test out a machine that can throw papers automatically. Little Archie gets Spotty to pull Dilton's machine, which works fine until Spotty sees his childhood enemy, Mrs. Skratchlow's cat Yakaboo, and takes off after him.
