“Occupy Riverdale”

Riverdale gets swept up in the spirit of 2012's real-world protest culture in this timely issue, as a visibly flustered Archie finds himself caught between a full-blown "Occupy Riverdale" demonstration — complete with signs reading "We Are the 99%" and "Too Big to Fail" — and a crowd that includes Jughead, Veronica, and what appears to be a rather elegant older gentleman looking on with quiet concern. Gisèle Lagacé's cover pencils capture the energy and awkwardness perfectly, with Archie's wide-eyed, hand-to-chin expression saying everything about being the guy stuck in the middle of a very complicated situation. Writer Alex Segura brings a genuinely fun, socially aware angle to Riverdale that feels right at home in the long-running series.
