Arak / Son of Thunder #47
In "Here Be Dragons!", Arak and his companions arrive in a Chinese port teeming with dragon-prowed ships—only to face a real, roaring dragon erupting from the sea. After Arak drives it off, he’s unexpectedly saved by Haakon, now the Byzantine ambassador, whose blunt offer to kill the beast nearly sparks a diplomatic incident. As tensions rise, an armed woman appears, demanding a meeting with Arak—the so-called dragon-slayer. Written by Roy Thomas, Dann Thomas, and R. J. M. Lofficier, with dynamic art by Tony DeZuniga and colors by Adrienne Roy, this issue blends myth and adventure in a vivid, action-packed journey. The cover, also by Tony DeZuniga, captures the moment the dragon emerges in full fury.

The voyagers have made their way to China, where they dock at a port filled with dragon-prowed ships. Just as they arrive, though, a real dragon bursts from the water and begins laying waste to all around it. Arak manages to drive it off, but he ends up having to be rescued by his old "friend" Haakon, now the Byzantine ambassador! During trade negotiations, the very undiplomatic Haakon offers to kill the dragon, offending the Chinese authorities (and causing Haakon no little embarrassment). Later, Arak and Valda are accosted by an armed woman demanding to meet Arak, the "dragon-slayer."
