Against a vast, star-filled desert sky, a young blonde woman in a jacket and plaid skirt sprints across cracked earth — and looming directly behind her is a massive, red, maw-gaping creature with jagged teeth and spiked claws that dwarf her entirely. The cover art by Steve Crespo and inker Chris Ivy sells the scale of the threat with real force, making the wide-open Southwestern landscape feel anything but safe. With "Shadowlands" as the story title and the creative team of Witcover, Hand, Crespo, and Blyberg on board, this 1994 DC series was clearly leaning into something genuinely unsettling.
