American Vampire: Second Cycle #8
Five Soviet cosmonauts in CCCP-marked spacesuits stand at rigid attention beneath a bold hammer-and-sickle flag — but the central figure, rendered in sickly yellow against the deep red, radiates something distinctly wrong, hinting that the Cold War has taken a very inhuman turn in American Vampire: Second Cycle. Rafael Albuquerque's cover for issue #8 of "Dark Moon, Part 3" is striking in its stark simplicity, using a limited palette to make that one unsettling cosmonaut impossible to ignore. Scott Snyder and Albuquerque continue to find fresh, chilling settings for their vampire mythology, and this Soviet space-age chapter looks like a genuinely gripping chapter of the series.
