American Vampire #13
Ghost War" kicks off in American Vampire #13, and Rafael Albuquerque's cover sets a striking wartime tone — a group of armed soldiers rendered in cool teal tones stand resolute against a bold red-and-white background suggestive of a rising-sun motif, with military aircraft cutting across the sky above them. The low-angle composition gives the figures a grim, monumental weight, hinting that Scott Snyder's story is taking the series into WWII-era territory. It's a compelling opening image for what promises to be a darker, war-drenched chapter in this Vertigo series.

With World War II raging in 1943, both Henry and Pearl Preston come out of hiding to serve their country in Honolulu, Hawaii. Pearl remains eternally young, but Henry's age keeps him from combat making him feel old and increasingly useless in the fight against evil. Linden Hobbes offers the experienced veteran a place on a special team formed by the Vassals of the Morning Star to protect American troops from vampires.
