All Star Western #29
Part of DC's New 52 initiative, All Star Western #29 drops Jonah Hex — the scarred frontier gunfighter now dressed in modern street clothes — into a chaotic tumble through time, as the cover by Darwyn Cooke depicts him mid-fall alongside a startled dark-haired young woman, surrounded by a swirl of objects spanning eras: a toy train, a vintage car, futuristic weaponry, books, and film reels. The disoriented energy on both their faces sells the sense that neither party quite has a handle on the situation, which pairs nicely with the story's title, "Bad Decisions." Written by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti with interior art by Cliff Richards, this issue promises the kind of fish-out-of-water tension that makes Hex such an enduring presence across any century you drop him into.
