“Panning for Gold”

From the New 52 comes All Star Western #19, as cover artists Howard Porter captures a battered, rain-soaked Jonah Hex crouching in a wooded creek bed, pan in hand and eyes fixed with grim determination — while an unseen gunman levels a pistol at him from off-frame and a pair of ravens watch from the trees. Writers Jimmy Palmiotti and Justin Gray frame the whole thing with an ominous tagline: "There's a new lawman in town..." suggesting the scarred bounty hunter's grip on his world may be loosening. This June 2013 issue also promises a Stormwatch backup feature, making it a satisfying double helping of DC's frontier-meets-superhero storytelling.
