“The "Mystery Men" of October!”

Part two of the "Crisis on Earth-Prime!" crossover event, this October 1982 issue of All-Star Squadron brings an extraordinary roster to bear — the cover by Joe Kubert makes that unmistakably clear. A leering, green-eyed villain dominates the foreground, his massive fist clutching a glowing orb in which several heroes — including figures identifiable as Firebrand and others — are trapped, while portrait heads of Johnny Quick, Robotman, Steel, Liberty Belle, Green Lantern, Power Girl, Starman, The Huntress, Dr. Fate, Zatanna, Superman, Firestorm, Hawkman, and Aquaman ring the composition, announcing the Justice League and Justice Society guest appearances promised in the banner. With Roy Thomas and Gerry Conway sharing scripting duties and Adrian Gonzales and Jerry Ordway handling interior art, this issue sits at the heart of one of 1982's most ambitious DC team-up stories.

Per Degaton has once again regained his memories in 1947, and decides this time he will not fail to conquer Earth-2, this time by going into the past to 1942. His plan: use the Crime Syndicate to steal nuclear weapons from Earth-Prime circa 1962 from Cuba during the Cuban Missile Crisis (which in turn caused that world to have a nuclear war) to use for his purposes. Meanwhile, the All-Stars meet up with the JLA and JSA and learn of Earth-Prime's fate in 1962 from them, and pledge to help out.
