“The Great Escape”

Issue four of this twelve-part Dark Horse series finds a poised, black-clad blonde woman leveling an assault rifle directly at a massive, looming Alien queen — her cool composure set against the creature's enormous, biomechanical silhouette rendered in an eerie yellow-green palette. John Bolton's painted cover art gives the confrontation a sleek, almost cinematic tension that suits the series title, The Deadliest of the Species, perfectly. With Christopher Claremont scripting and Eduardo Barreto on interior art, this 1994 crossover event was delivering one of the more ambitious collaborations in Dark Horse's sci-fi stable.
