Adventure Comics #324

This September 1964 issue of Adventure Comics pits Superboy against a formidable trio of rogue super-beings calling themselves the Legion of Super-Outlaws. The cover by Curt Swan and Sheldon Moldoff lays out the threat in vivid style: a tiger-headed Beast Boy boasts he can become any animal in the universe, the enormous-skulled Evolvo Lad claims a brain surpassing even Brainiac's, and the vaporous Gas Girl taunts Superboy that his mighty strength can't hold her — while a visibly alarmed Superboy wonders how anyone can stop them. Edmond Hamilton's story, brought to life inside by John Forte, promises exactly the kind of wild, imaginative villainy that made the Legion titles irresistible reading in the Silver Age.
