Action Comics #455
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThe cover of this January 1976 issue says it all: Superman lies pinned and crumpled on the ground while the hulking, patchwork robot Junk-Man looms over him with a crushing blow — a striking image that promises real trouble for the Man of Steel. Green Arrow charges in from the left, arrow drawn, and the tiny but mighty Atom swoops in from the right, making this a genuine team effort against a surprisingly formidable mechanical menace. Bob Oksner's cover work gives the scene a lively, kinetic energy, and with Elliot S! Maggin scripting and Curt Swan on interior art, this mid-seventies DC adventure delivers the kind of colorful, superhero-teamup fun the era did so well.

Morty Brooks has a great idea for his next movie, and Oliver Queens sets up a meeting with Clark Kent. Superman drops the Atom off in Kandor to see if he can help enlarge it. A Kandorian experiment causes problems in Morty's laboratory, requiring Superman (with Green Arrow's help) to absorb the crazy energy it caused. Superman uses Morty's "Junkman" robot to get rid of the energy, but this brings the robot to life. The robot wants more Kandorian energy, and almost destroys the bottle city, but Superman, with the help of Green Arrow and the Atom, is able to stop it.
