About this issue

This issue of Nick Peddie's Wild West Inheritance: The Romance of Dead Man's Ranch by Leon Lewis comprises a Western adventure serial. Nicholas Peddie, a New York bank clerk recovering his health, purchases the bargain-priced Dead Man's Ranch from a land agent and travels to Colorado to inspect it. Lost in the Rocky Mountain wilderness for days without provisions, his horse dies as he collapses from hunger and exhaustion. After glimpsing a mysterious house that vanishes, Nick discovers wagon tracks and meets a friendly stranger in hunter's garb near the trail. The hunter offers brandy and provisions, directing Nick toward a nearby dwelling. The narrative emphasizes survival perils—starvation, dangerous wildlife, treacherous terrain, and isolation—while developing Nick's transformation from inexperienced Easterner to Western frontiersman.
