About this issue

This issue features "The Veiled Lady of San Tropez," a serial adventure tale by Colonel Delle Sara set in 1653 Mediterranean waters. The narrative follows a small, lightly-armed lugger sailing toward North Africa, carrying a mysterious veiled lady and commanded by a skipper with military bearing. When an approaching vessel reveals itself as the feared pirate ship of "the Lion of the Sea"—a Greek corsair whose black flag displays a white lion's head—tension escalates aboard the lugger. The Lion Captain boards the vessel and identifies the skipper as "Black Dick of Crewe," a man attempting to conceal a precious cargo. As the captain threatens to search the ship and seize contents, the veiled lady emerges from below deck, throwing herself on her knees to plead for mercy and prevent what she calls a "deed of horror."
