The Mysteries of the Court of London is the second volume of George W. M. Reynolds's sprawling serial narrative, serialized in weekly installments. This installment contains chapters CXX–CCXXI, spanning political intrigue, scandal, and gothic horror set within aristocratic circles and London's criminal underworld. The Prince (heir to the British throne) experiences tormented dreams of his seduced and abandoned victims—women and their dead infants—who haunt him as spectral accusers. The narrative branches into multiple plot strands: a working man's widow seeking justice, a titled lady arrested for mysterious crimes, a milliner caught in schemes of blackmail and murder, and a necromantic subplot involving the exhumation of corpses. Characters include aristocratic seducers, constables, lawyers, beggars, and mysterious "pious travellers." The 104 wood-engraved illustrations depict Gothic scenes of supernatural torment, murder, social degradation, and sensational court proceedings.
Each page has its own page — the cartoon, who’s in it, and what the satire means.
