**Top Cartoon: "The Husband's Correspondence Bureau During a Busy Hour"** This satirizes marital infidelity and domestic discord. A "correspondence bureau" ostensibly helps husbands with problems, but the cartoon shows the real scandal: a wife has caught her husband with an attractive blonde secretary in the office. The accompanying text humorously describes how the wife's unexpected visit caused a disturbance, police were called, and the situation was "speedily adjusted"—yet the bureau's management dismisses it as a trivial interruption. The satire targets both philandering husbands and their convenient rationalizations. **Bottom Article: "Is Tammany Really Religious?"** This critiques political corruption and selective outrage. It argues that Tammany Hall (New York's Democratic political machine) faces accusations of anti-Irish-Catholic bias, while equally corrupt Republican machines in Albany and Philadelphia escape such criticism. The piece suggests that accusations of religious prejudice are weaponized selectively against Tammany while similar corruption elsewhere goes unchallenged—exposing hypocrisy in how different political organizations are judged.

THE HUSBAND'S CORRESPONDENCE BUREAU DURING A BUSY HouR. ‘LIFE« this country to let our own troubles weigh us down; we may not be as happy in our married life as we ought to be, with the immense advantages of this Bureau constantly at our elbow. We are also possessed of a philosophical spirit, and we flatter ourselves that we can stand more than the average man Entirely aside from this, however, we y that the whole matter erated. It arose from a trivial incident due to the chance visit to our office one afternoon of our wife, while we were engaged in going over our coming program with the tall handsome blonde who is in charge of our office. The police—always friendly to us—were called in promptly and the difficulty speedily adjusted We mention the in- cident merely to show how some people have so little to do that they take sar- donic satisfaction in magnifying what we shall ever consider was only a trifling interruption to the routine of the day. We desire to remind all customers or applicants that we cannot grant a per- sonal interview except by appointment. This can be arranged for in advance. In the meantime, we advise all husbands stopping in town to visit and register with us. No matter what your trouble is, we can cure it, always excepting Christian Science or Suffragette cases. We have, however, mitigated the horrors of many of these. Call, write or wire. Hussanps’ Corresponnence Bureau. Is Tammany Really Religious ? ISTRUSTERS of Tammany are put under the political microscope at once to see if there are anti-lrish- Catholic germs in them. Colonel William Barnes’ Albany ma- chine has aims very slightly different from Tammany aims, but you can butt at it all day and never be accused of racial antipathy or religious prejudice The great Republican machine in Phil- adelphia is quite as gainful as Tammany cver was, and vastly more disorderly and disreputable than Tammany is now, but you can curse it out as long as your breath lasts and never be suspected of unfriendliness to the Friends. “A PEARL FROM THE DEEP” comicbooks.com pes i 1
