Toni Blum
Toni Blum (born Audrey Anthony Blum, c. January 12, 1918 – died 1972 or 1973) was an American comic book writer and one of the first women to work professionally in the male-dominated industry during the Golden Age of the 1930s and 1940s. She is best known for her writing at Quality Comics, where she contributed to titles such as *Hit Comics*, *National Comics*, and *Feature Comics*. She also wrote for other publishers on series including *Champ Comics*, *Fantastic Comics*, and the Swedish reprint series *Sagoserien*. Her credited work spans 23 issues from 1940 into 2019, though her most active period was the 1940s.
Blum was the daughter of comics artist Alex Blum and the wife of artist Bill Bossert, with whom she sometimes collaborated. She worked primarily as a writer, but her credits also include inking and lettering. Her style was straightforward and plot-driven, typical of the era’s adventure and superhero stories. She is notable as a rare female voice in early comics, helping pave the way for later women in the field. Details of her later life remain sparse, and she passed away in the early 1970s. She has not received major awards, but her historical significance as a pioneering female professional endures.
