Richard Elson
Richard Elson, born in 1962 in the United Kingdom, is a British comic book artist best known for his dynamic work on *Sonic the Comic*, *2000 AD*, and Marvel’s *Thor*. His career in comics began in the late 1980s, and he quickly became a steady presence in British and American publishing. Over nearly three decades, from 1989 to 2018, he contributed to 59 issues as an artist, colorist, or inker.
Elson’s style is marked by clean, energetic linework and a keen sense of action, making him a natural fit for both high-speed adventures and superhero epics. He collaborated extensively with writers and editors at *2000 AD* and *Judge Dredd Megazine*, and his work on *Sonic the Comic* remains a fan favorite. At Marvel, he drew *Journey into Mystery*, *Morbius: The Living Vampire*, and the miniseries *Marvel Zombies Return*, as well as the tie-in *Pacific Rim: Aftermath*.
While he did not co-create any major characters, his reliable, polished art helped define the visual tone of several long-running series. Elson’s later work includes contributions to licensed properties and independent projects. Though not a frequent award-winner, his consistent output and versatility have earned him respect among peers and readers. He remains a notable figure in British comics, particularly for his role in bringing Sonic the Hedgehog to the printed page.
