Phil Foglio
Phil Foglio, born Philip Peter Foglio on May 1, 1956, is an American cartoonist whose work is synonymous with witty, whimsical science fiction and fantasy. He is best known as the co-creator of the beloved webcomic and graphic novel series *Girl Genius*, a steampunk adventure he writes and draws with his wife, Kaja Foglio. Foglio’s path into comics began in the late 1970s, and he soon developed a distinctive, clean-lined style that balanced cartoony expressiveness with intricate detail, often laced with playful eroticism. His signature works include the adult-oriented *Xxxenophile* and the spacefaring comedy *Buck Godot: Zap Gun for Hire*, both of which showcase his knack for blending humor with imaginative world-building. He also contributed to *Star Blazers* and *Dynamo Joe*, and his long-running work on *The Duelist* magazine helped define the visual identity of early Magic: The Gathering card art. Foglio’s collaborations with his wife on *Girl Genius* earned the series multiple Hugo Awards for Best Graphic Story. Later in his career, he continued to expand the *Girl Genius* universe through print collections and digital releases, cementing his legacy as a master of lighthearted, clever genre comics.
