Peter B. Gillis was born on December 19, 1952, and died on June 20, 2024. An American writer, he made his mark in the 1980s at Marvel Comics and First Comics. His most celebrated creation is *Strikeforce: Morituri*, a series he wrote for Marvel about a team of superhumans who gain immense powers but know they will die within a year. He also wrote the digitally drawn *Shatter* for First Comics, an early experiment in computer-generated art. Gillis’s path into comics began in the late 1970s, and he worked steadily as a writer and occasional inker on 45 issues across his career, with notable runs on *Captain America* and *What If?*. He frequently collaborated with artists such as Brent Anderson on *Strikeforce: Morituri* and Mike Saenz on *Shatter*. His work often explored the cost of heroism and the fragility of life. Later in his career, he contributed to *Warp* and *Spidey*. While he did not receive major industry awards, his thoughtful, character-driven stories have been remembered by fans of 1980s superhero comics.
