Matthew Southworth
Matthew Southworth is a Seattle-based comic artist best known for co-creating the modern noir series *Stumptown* with writer Greg Rucka for Oni Press, a property later adapted into an ABC television series on which he served as executive producer. Born in the United States, his first published work was a short piece in Erik Larsen’s *Savage Dragon*, followed by inking three issues of DC’s *Infinity, Inc.*, where he also penciled backup stories inked by Stefano Gaudiano. Southworth occasionally assisted Gaudiano on projects like *Daredevil* and *The Sensational Spider-Man*. His credits include illustrating *Spider-Man: The Grim Hunt* for Marvel, a Killer Croc story for DC, and inking work on Marvel’s *Ares*. In 2012, he collaborated with Southdown Creative on a motion comic for Xbox LIVE’s “Summer of Arcade.” Outside comics, Southworth was the lead vocalist and guitarist for the band The Capillaries. In 2020, he published the graphic novel *The Cloven* with author Garth Stein. His art frequently incorporates Seattle locations, grounding his work in a strong sense of place.
