Maryse Dubuc

Maryse Dubuc, born 21 October 1977, is a Canadian comics writer best known for co-creating the long-running series *The Bellybuttons* (*Les Nombrils*) with artist Marc Delafontaine (known as Delaf). Dubuc’s path into comics began as a colorist before she found her voice as a writer, and from 2006 to 2018 she contributed to eleven issues across titles including *Les Nombrils*, *Tempo*, and *Navlerne*. Her signature work, *The Bellybuttons*, is a sharp, humorous examination of teenage friendship and social dynamics, marked by Dubuc’s witty dialogue and Delaf’s expressive, cartoonish art. The series became a staple of French-language comics, earning a devoted readership for its relatable characters and sly satire. Dubuc’s later career saw her continue to write for the series while also exploring other projects, though her legacy remains firmly tied to this co-creation. She has received several major awards, including the Prix Bédélys and the Prix des libraires du Québec, recognizing her contributions to Quebecois comics.
