Jonathan Vankin is an American author, journalist, and comic book writer and editor, best known for his work in the late 1990s and 2000s on mature-reader series for DC Comics' Vertigo imprint. Born in the United States, Vankin's path into comics came after a career in journalism and non-fiction writing. He is most recognized for co-creating *The Witching*, a supernatural thriller series for Vertigo, and for writing the cultural travelogues *Vertigo Pop!: Bangkok* and *Vertigo Pop!: Tokyo*, which blended crime and local color. He also contributed to *Brightest Day Aftermath: The Search for Swamp Thing*, *Initial D*, and *Agent X9*. His style often weaves genre fiction with real-world settings and social commentary. Key collaborators include artist Leigh Gallagher on *The Witching* and penciler Goran Sudžuka on *Vertigo Pop!: Bangkok*. Vankin's later work saw him return to prose, including a book on conspiracy theories. While he has not received major comic industry awards, his Vertigo projects remain notable for their ambitious, globe-trotting narratives. He was active in comics from 2000 to 2011, with 29 credited issues in our catalog.
