Part two of this three-issue Brightest Day aftermath miniseries drops Jonathan Vankin and Renato Arlem right into the thick of DC's post-event fallout. The cover by Ardian Syaf and Vicente Cifuentes is a striking composition: a trench-coated figure — visibly touched by plant growth creeping across his skin — stands in the foreground drawing on a cigarette, while a looming Superman fills the background, eyes blazing with heat vision and cape billowing ominously behind him. The tension between the grounded, occult-tinged investigator and the raw power radiating off the Man of Steel makes this one of the more compelling visual pairings of 2011.
