John Lustig
John Lustig was born on January 25, 1953, in the United States. He is best known as a writer of Disney comics, particularly those featuring Donald Duck and the extended Duck family. His scripts have been illustrated by artists including William Van Horn, and he has also written Mickey Mouse stories drawn by Noel Van Horn, among others. Lustig’s first published script was for Gold Key Comics’ “Flatfood Duck” in *Daffy Duck* #112 (December 1977), completed shortly after he graduated from college; it would be a decade before he wrote another comic.
Lustig later gained attention for *Last Kiss*, a series that recontextualizes panels from old Charlton romance comics with postmodern captions. This work has appeared in four comic book issues, as a regular feature in *Comics Buyer’s Guide*, and on merchandise like T-shirts and greeting cards. His career in comics spans from 1987 to 2023, with credits on 37 issues as writer, artist, or inker, most frequently for titles such as *Donald Duck & Co*, *Disney’s DuckTales*, and *Walt Disney’s Donald Duck Adventures*. Lustig’s contributions to Disney comics and his inventive repurposing of vintage material have made him a distinctive figure in the field.
