Jimmy Gownley
Jimmy Gownley was born on February 5, 1972, in Girardville, Pennsylvania. He is best known as the writer and artist of the acclaimed series *Amelia Rules!*, which earned him national recognition and a devoted readership. Gownley began creating comics early, self-publishing his first work, *Shades of Gray*, while still in high school. He distributed roughly 100 copies of issues #0 and #1 in 1988–89. A later run of twelve issues, titled *Shades of Gray Comics and Stories*, reached a wider audience through national distribution, featuring color covers and black-and-white interiors. Gownley published these through his own company, Lady Luck, Ltd. In 1998, he released a *Shades of Gray* graphic novel, *Fiction, Part One*, which included a CD of songs he wrote and performed with hired musicians. He then shifted focus to *Amelia Rules!*, launching it in 2001 under Renaissance Press, a publishing venture he co-founded with Karen Gownley and cartoonist Michael Cohen. The series was later licensed by Simon & Schuster in 2008, leading to a multi-book deal that reissued earlier volumes and produced new ones, including *The Tweenage Guide To Not Being Unpopular* and *The Meaning of Life ... and Other Stuff*. Gownley’s work is noted for its warm, character-driven storytelling and clean cartooning style. He has also contributed to *Disney Tangled the Series* and created the graphic novel *The Dumbest Idea Ever!*. His career spans over three decades, with credits as writer, artist, colorist, inker, and letterer on 39 issues.
