A Very Ninja Christmas #[nn]
In "How Amelia First Met Her Friends," a 2009 Simon and Schuster release, newly relocated Amelia navigates her first days in a new town, struggling to fit in with the neighborhood kids who play superheroes. Written and illustrated by Jimmy Gownley, the story captures her quiet determination as she faces rejection from jealous Rhonda and ultimately earns her place by standing up to bullies with nothing but a garden hose. The cover, also by Gownley, mirrors the warmth and humor of this heartfelt coming-of-age moment.
