Françoise Mouly
Françoise Mouly was born on 24 October 1955 in France, and has built a career as a designer, editor, and publisher with a profound impact on the English-language comics world. She is best known as co-founder, co-editor, and publisher of *Raw* (1980–1991), a landmark magazine that elevated the production values of comics and introduced readers to new and international cartoonists. Through Raw Books and later Toon Books, she championed comics as both a serious art form and an educational tool. Since 1993, she has served as the art editor of *The New Yorker*, shaping its visual identity. Mouly is married to cartoonist Art Spiegelman and is the mother of writer Nadja Spiegelman. Her own credited work includes coloring and writing on titles such as *Power Man*, *Ghost Rider*, *Raw*, *Fantastic Four*, *Le Tombeau de Dracula*, and *The Human Fly*. The French government recognized her contributions by naming her a Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters in 2001 and a Knight of the Legion of Honour in 2011. Her legacy lies in her steadfast advocacy for comics as a medium of artistic and literary value.
