Don Lomax
Don Lomax (born 1944) is an American comic book writer and artist best known for his long-running series *Vietnam Journal*. A veteran of the Vietnam War, Lomax drew on his own experiences to create gritty, unflinching stories about the military, focusing on the raw reality of combat. He entered the comics field in the late 1970s, with his first credited work appearing in 1978, and remained active through 2018. Over four decades, he contributed to 66 issues as a writer, artist, inker, letterer, and colorist. His signature work, *Vietnam Journal*, ran for many years and earned him a reputation for authentic, adrenaline-fueled war comics. He also wrote for Marvel’s *The 'Nam* and contributed to titles such as *High Shining Brass*, *Sleepwalker*, *Fantasci*, and the Norwegian *Magnum presenterer*. Lomax’s key collaborators included other war-comics veterans, though he often worked solo on his own projects. His later years saw a continued focus on military-themed work, and his legacy rests on his uncompromising portrayal of the soldier’s experience. While major industry awards are not widely recorded for Lomax, his body of work remains a touchstone for realistic war storytelling in American comics.
