Cynthia Martin
1961–
Cynthia Martin (born September 19, 1961) is an American comic book artist best known for her work on Marvel’s *Star Wars* title in the mid-1980s. Her clean linework and dynamic sense of motion in action sequences distinguished her from her contemporaries, while her style subtly incorporated elements of Japanese manga years before that influence became widespread in American comics. She was also one of the few women working in mainstream comics at the time.
Martin’s career spans from 1985 to 2023, with credits on 48 issues across titles including *Return of the Jedi Weekly*, *Wonder Woman*, and *War of the Gods*, as well as the Swedish *Månadens äventyr* and *Star Wars Special*. Her most frequent collaborator was writer David Michelinie on *Star Wars* arcs. She contributed to the *War of the Gods* crossover event, working alongside George Pérez and other top DC artists.
After her 1980s peak, Martin continued working sporadically, including coloring and inking on later projects. Her legacy is as a quiet pioneer—a female artist in a male-dominated field whose manga-influenced style anticipated later trends. She has not received major industry awards, but her work remains a footnote in the history of both *Star Wars* comics and the growing diversity of American comic book creators.
