Who is Swee'pea?

Swee'pea is the infant foundling who arrived on Popeye's doorstep as an abandoned baby, whom the sailor man promptly adopted and raised as his own. The lovable tot became a fixture in E.C. Segar's comic strip world.

Few characters from the Platinum Age have lingered in readers' hearts quite like Swee'pea, who made their debut way back in King Comics #2 in 1936 and has been charming fans ever since across a remarkable 78-year publishing run. A fixture of the beloved Popeye universe, Swee'pea shares the page with some of comics' most iconic personalities β€” Popeye himself, Olive Oyl, Wimpy, and Brutus β€” a roster that speaks to just how central this little character is to that world's warmth and humor. With appearances spread across Popeye, Four Color, and King Comics under Charlton's banner, and two collector-significant key issues to their name, Swee'pea is a genuine piece of comics history β€” small in stature, but absolutely worth a place in any serious collection.
