Rulah
A young woman whose plane crashed in Africa, Rulah survived and was adopted by the local people, becoming a fierce jungle guardian. Clad in a giraffe-skin costume, she protected the wilderness and its inhabitants from poachers, criminals, and other threats.
Few characters from the Golden Age jungle-adventure genre have endured quite like Rulah, who burst onto the scene in 1947's Zoot Comics #7 under the masterful pen of Matt Baker, one of the era's most celebrated artists. Born from that gloriously pulpy postwar moment when comics were wild and anything felt possible, Rulah carved out her own corner of the jungle-heroine tradition with enough staying power to keep readers coming back across an astonishing span of decades β all the way into the 2020s. Her adventures have found a devoted home in dedicated collections, particularly through Gwandanaland Comics, which has championed her legacy alongside her own eponymous series and Jungle Comics. Sharing pages with the likes of Sandra Knight, Ms. Victory, and Jo-Jo, Rulah keeps genuinely distinguished Golden Age company, making her a rewarding discovery for any collector with a taste for the bold, beautiful storytelling that defined comics' earliest era.
