Who is Primal?

Primal is a mutant who emerged as one of the so-called "Lights" — new mutants whose powers activated after Hope Summers' return — and joined the young team gathered by Hope to stabilize newly manifested mutants in the post-Decimation era.

Bursting onto the scene in 2011 courtesy of writer Kieron Gillen and artist Salvador Espin, Primal is a Modern Age Marvel creation who debuted in Generation Hope #3 — part of a vivid new wave of mutant storytelling that felt urgent and fresh. Their relatively brief but collector-notable run across Generation Hope, Generation Hope: Schism, and Generation Hope: The End of a Generation packs real significance into a compact footprint, with two of those appearances earning key-issue recognition. Sharing pages with the likes of Hope Summers, Velocidad, Transonic, and Teon Macik, Primal moves through some of the most compelling mutant company Marvel assembled in the early 2010s — and with only eight catalogued appearances, every single one counts.
