Pokey
Pokey is the small, good-natured orange horse and loyal companion to Gumby, the iconic clay-animated character created by Art Clokey. Like Gumby, Pokey originates from the classic stop-motion TV franchise before transitioning into comics.
Pokey made his comics debut in L.A. Funnies #1 in 1983 β a Bronze Age arrival for Art Clokey's beloved little orange horse β and went on to share pages with an eclectic crowd that includes Gumby, Spider-Man, Peter Parker, and even Cap'n Crunch across a publishing run that stretched all the way to 2017. With 50 catalog appearances spread across titles as wonderfully varied as Gumby, L.A. Funnies, and G.I. Joe and the Transformers, Pokey carved out a surprisingly wide footprint in comics for a character best known for his cheerful, clay-animated charm. Collectors have flagged at least one of those appearances as a key issue, making this loyal little pony worth a closer look on any Bronze Age deep-dive.
