Phage is one of five symbiote offspring forcibly spawned from Venom by the Life Foundation, a survivalist corporation that sought to weaponize symbiotes as super-powered protectors for its wealthy clients following a predicted nuclear apocalypse.

Bursting onto the Marvel scene in 1996 courtesy of Larry Hama, Joe St. Pierre, and Tom Grindberg, Phage is one of those gloriously unsettling corners of the symbiote corner of the Marvel Universe that hardcore fans treasure. Debuting in Venom: Along Came a Spider #1, this Modern Age creation carved out a niche among some of Marvel's most viscerally wild characters, sharing pages with the likes of Spider-Man, Carnage, Riot, Lasher, and Agony — a rogues' gallery of symbiote chaos that tells you everything about the dangerous world Phage inhabits. With appearances stretching across 25 years into Extreme Carnage Omega in 2021, Phage has proven surprisingly durable for a character with a relatively lean catalog footprint — a cult figure whose every appearance carries real weight for symbiote completists.
