Groo the Wanderer
Groo is a supremely skilled yet catastrophically dim-witted wandering swordsman who roams a pseudo-medieval world, unwittingly causing destruction, famine, and shipwrecks wherever he travels — his legendary incompetence matched only by his unmatched (if disastrously applied) skill with twin blades.
Few characters in comics history have wandered quite so far or so long as Groo the Wanderer, who crashed onto the scene in Destroyer Duck #1 in 1982 — a Bronze Age debut that launched one of the most beloved and enduring comedy-adventure sagas in the medium. Created by Steve Gerber, this hapless, catastrophe-prone swordsman has been stumbling his way through barbarian misadventure for over four decades, a remarkable testament to the character's irresistible charm. His longest home at Dark Horse has given him room to roam across titles like Groo: In the Wild and Critters, keeping colorful company along the way — even sharing pages, improbably, with the likes of Spider-Man and Iron Man. If you've never followed Groo's trail of cheerful mayhem, you're missing one of comics' great originals.
