Groo: In the Wild #4
☆ Be the first to review + Add to your collection — Join freeThe wild conclusion to Aragonés and Evanier's four-part nature adventure arrives in fine chaotic form, and the cover says it all: Groo — dual swords strapped to his back, looking equal parts bewildered and responsible — stands amid a stampeding menagerie of elephants, rhinos, gorillas, kudu, hyenas, monkeys, a crocodile, a seagull, colorful tropical birds, and what appears to be every other creature with a reason to be annoyed. Aragonés's cover linework crackles with the same breathless energy as the lightning bolt splitting the sky behind our hapless wanderer, packing the image with dozens of meticulously drawn animals surging toward the viewer. If the first three issues were any indication, issue #4 of Groo: In the Wild wraps things up with the brand of gleeful, beautifully rendered mayhem that has made this series such a treat.

Groo frees cartloads of wild spotted pumis from hunters as only he can. King Putrio summons a pair of mighty fishing ships commanded by Captain Ahax to further disrupt the balance of nature by "scoop[ing] up every fish and crustacean within leagues of the shore" for Putrio to sell at faraway markets at great profit. Groo unknowingly thwarts that plan by inadvertently sinking both vessels. With that, the council that set Putrio up as king to make them all wealthier turns on him and runs the ex-king off into the hills. Groo has saved the environment, but only a proud Rufferto knows.
